Find a simple background
Shelves can be visually busy. Look for an angle where your face remains the focal point and avoid strong overhead shadows. Keep other shoppers and private checkout information out of view.
Take a small set
- Start with a normal standing portrait.
- Hold a book only if it fits the moment.
- Check that the cover does not dominate the frame.
- Finish promptly and leave the space as you found it.
A photograph browsing a section you genuinely enjoy can be a conversation starter. Pretending to read a difficult book solely for the picture adds an unnecessary story to maintain.
Select for clarity
Choose the frame where you look relaxed rather than the one with the most impressive shelf. The setting is supporting context. If the shop is too dark or crowded, take the portrait outside and let the visit remain an ordinary part of the day.
