How to choose a founder portrait for a website

Choose a current image that fits the page's purpose and leaves room for the actual layout. A founder portrait should support a credible introduction rather than create a borrowed status image.

Match the crop to the placement

An about-page portrait may allow a wider setting, while a small author avatar needs a clear face. Ask for both a closer and wider version from the same source if the design needs them.

Review the claim

  1. Check that the setting represents your work honestly.
  2. Keep branding and visible documents accurate.
  3. Leave space for responsive crops.
  4. Confirm image rights and the preferred credit.

A photograph in an ordinary workspace can be more appropriate than a staged luxury office that implies a different company scale. The page's written claims and image should agree.

Preserve a useful asset

Keep a high-quality original and labelled web exports. Avoid text baked into the portrait unless the design specifically needs it. A clean source makes future layouts easier and prevents repeated compression when the website is updated.
