Find open light
Stand near the edge of an open area rather than deep under a dark canopy. Face towards the brighter part of the sky and ask the photographer to check that your eyes remain clear. Keep the horizon from running through your head.
Make a small set
- Take a relaxed chest-up portrait.
- Step back for an environmental frame.
- Turn slightly and compare the light on your face.
- Review at phone size before leaving.
A park path with darker trees behind you can separate your face from the background without a dramatic edit. A pale wall under a pale sky may need a different angle or a darker outfit.
Choose the natural result
Avoid increasing contrast until skin looks harsh simply to make the sky interesting. The picture's job is to show you clearly. Keep one useful frame from the session rather than filling your profile with several nearly identical grey-day portraits.
