Keep the focal point protected
Place the face where the layout preserves it and leave space around the head. Avoid relying on an important detail near an outer edge that may disappear in a different aspect ratio.
Review the responsive versions
- Keep a high-quality original.
- Test the intended desktop crop.
- Inspect the narrow-screen version.
- Adjust the crop or source image if recognition suffers.
A founder pictured at one side of a wide office scene may be cut out by a centred mobile crop. A separate portrait asset can be more reliable than forcing one image into every placement.
Avoid stretching the source
Preserve proportions and choose an intentional crop. Do not enlarge a tiny avatar for a large hero image and expect genuine detail to appear. The best asset fits the design's real uses while keeping the person clear and recognisable.
