Identify the main distraction
Look at the image briefly at thumbnail size. Notice what you see first besides the face. Bright colours, readable text and objects appearing to grow out of the head often compete strongly for attention.
Simplify in the scene
- Move a step sideways.
- Increase distance from the background where practical.
- Try a slightly tighter crop.
- Recheck the edges and reflective surfaces.
A lamp directly behind your head can be solved by changing position. Removing it later may take longer and can leave an unnatural patch.
Keep useful context
Do not blur everything into an anonymous wash if the setting explains an activity you enjoy. The goal is a readable hierarchy: you first, context second. Charmshots's local editor can help with modest framing, but it should not be described as reconstructing a new scene.
